Welcome to Coach Mike's Gear Guide

Over the years, members have asked me the same questions: “What shoes should I buy?” “What grips do you recommend?” “Do I really need knee sleeves?” Rather than giving different answers every time, I put together this guide with the products I personally use, recommend, or would buy myself. You won’t find hundreds of products here only gear I believe offers real value for the everyday athlete. Whether you’re just getting started or have years of experience, I hope this guide helps you make informed decisions and get the most out of your training.

See you in class. — Coach Mike

PICSIL Hawk Grips

PICSIL Hawk Grips (No Chalk)

Designed for clean bars that don't require chalk — lightweight, comfortable, and easy to put on or take off mid-workout.

Best for: Pull-ups, hanging knee raises, toes-to-bar, muscle-ups

Coach's Tip: Build your grip strength first, then invest in a quality pair once you're doing more hanging movements.

RX Smart Gear Jump Rope

RX Smart Gear Jump Rope

The official jump rope used at INGLEWOODFIT — matches cable weight to your ability for smoother, more consistent timing.

Best for: Single-unders, double-unders, all skill levels

Coach's Tip: Start with the BUFF cable. Once you can string together 30–50 unbroken double-unders, move to a thinner cable for speed.

Nike Free Metcon Series

Nike Free Metcon Series

Combines the stability needed for lifting with the flexibility and comfort you want for jumping, rowing, and short runs.

Best for: Functional fitness, strength training, short runs, everyday workouts

Coach's Tip: Try on a few pairs first — the best shoe is the one that feels stable and keeps your feet happy all workout long.

Element 26 Weightlifting Belt

Element 26 Weightlifting Belt

Excellent support for squats, deadlifts, and Olympic lifts, with a quick-lock buckle for fast tightening and loosening.

Best for: Squats, deadlifts, Olympic lifts, heavier loads

Coach's Tip: A belt doesn't replace good technique. Learn to brace your core first, then use it as extra support when the weight gets heavy.

Element 26 Knee Sleeves

Element 26 Knee Sleeves

Warmth, compression, and support during squats, lunges, box jumps, and Olympic lifts — especially on heavier lifting days.

Best for: Squats, lunges, Olympic lifting, extra knee support

Coach's Tip: Save them for heavier lifting or high-volume leg days rather than wearing them every session.

TECEUM Wrist Wraps

TECEUM Wrist Wraps

Added support and stability during pressing movements, without limiting your range of motion.

Best for: Overhead presses, bench press, handstand push-ups, Olympic lifting

Coach's Tip: A tool, not a requirement — save them for heavier pressing days and train without them when the weight is lighter.

HIMESPORNER Resistance Bands

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are one of the most versatile and cost-effective pieces of equipment you can own. They're great for building glute strength, improving hip stability, warming up before workouts, and adding resistance without heavy weights.

Best for: Beginners, glute activation, home workouts, mobility, travel workouts

Coach's Tip: These are a must-have if you're joining INGLEWOODFIT's Glute Studio. We use bands regularly to strengthen the posterior chain and improve hip stability. They're inexpensive, easy to take anywhere, and can make almost any lower-body exercise more effective.

Bear KompleX Weighted Vest

Bear KompleX Weighted Vest

If you're looking to increase the intensity of your walks, runs, or functional fitness workouts, a weighted vest is one of the best investments you can make.

Best for: Walking, running, Murph, functional fitness, conditioning

Coach's Tip: This is the weighted vest I personally use. I wear it while walking my dog Teddy and during some of my runs. It fits extremely well, feels balanced and doesn't bounce around while running.

Tone Fitness Foam Roller

Foam Roller

There are a lot of foam roller options out there, but we like to keep it simple at INGLEWOODFIT. A basic foam roller is an affordable and effective tool for reducing muscle soreness, improving mobility, and speeding up recovery.

Best for: Recovery, mobility, warm-ups, post-workout soreness, everyday athletes

Coach's Tip: This is the style of foam roller we use at INGLEWOODFIT. It gets the job done without overcomplicating things. If you join INGLEWOODFIT, we'll show you how to use it properly so you get the most benefit from it.

Rodo Lacrosse Massage Ball

Lacrosse Massage Ball

Don't let the size fool you. A lacrosse massage ball is one of the best tools for targeting tight muscles and stubborn knots that a foam roller can't always reach.

Best for: Trigger point release, upper back, shoulders, glutes, hamstrings, feet

Coach's Tip: This little tool hurts so good. While a foam roller works well for larger muscle groups, a lacrosse ball lets you get into those smaller, hard-to-reach areas that need a little extra attention. Lean against a wall and roll out your upper back, or sit on a box or hard chair and place the ball under your hamstring or glute. You'll thank me later.
